Jon Ausman is happiest in a tough campaign. Ausman was elected to the Democratic National Committee in 1992, and is the longest serving DNC Member in Florida history. He served eight years as Vice-Chair of the Florida Democratic Party and twenty years as Chair of the Leon County Party. He was just elected to his fourth term as County State Committeeman. Manager of a number of successful State Senate and House races, Ausman knocked out a Republican Member of Congress. He raises money for political candidates and charities. Ausman became County Chair in Leon County when he was 26 years old. As Chair, he forged a party nationally recognized as one of the best among medium sized counties. Ausman has been described in The Tallahassee Democrat as "ruthless, controversial, brilliant, vengeful, the king of Leon County politics and vindictive." The Miami Herald calls him a "kingmaker" who plays to win. Ausman's goal is to build a strong, vibrant, from the bottom up, Democratic Party, to win elections, and to give every child an opportunity to be the best he or she can be. He believes in a Democratic Party structure that shares information and is inclusive in its decision-making and effective in elections. Ausman is the Dean of Florida Democratic National Committee Members. As Dean, Ausman appealed to the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee to give Florida delegates to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. It took three months of negotiations with seven different groups to get a unanimous and positive result.
