Scott Smith Candidate for AZ Governor endorsed by Gov Jan Brewer. Scott Smith grew up in the area after his family moved to Mesa in 1967, when his father assumed the role of superintendent of Mesa Public Schools.[1][2] He was a star basketball player at Westwood High School and graduated in 1974.[3] He obtained a BS in accounting in 1980 from the Brigham Young University Marriott School of Management. He subsequently attended Arizona State University where he obtained an MBA in 1985 and a juris doctorate in 1996 from the Arizona State University College of Law. Scott was president of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM). He is the first Arizona mayor to serve as president of the organization.
