With fear, uncertainty, and despair filling the void once filled with hope and promise, the political system rots at the core. The two-party system is failing, obstruction in the name of political aspiration is a new norm, and corporate money has corrupted Democracy itself. Through this chaos, the Republican Party fell victim to the shadow that swept across the country and in turn became part of the same darkness. The fringe of the party has pushed policies that promote sexism, racism, homophobia, and other hateful positions; such as their push to remove child labor laws, the war on women's reproductive rights, attacking public education, to the crusades against unions, their hostility toward the victims of natural disasters, and their disdain for the poor and middle class. In this world ever-changing through this time ever-testing, we've been chosen to stand for the principles of today just as our ancestors fought for the American ideals of yesterday. Our political system is a vehicle in which public necessity is accomplished and just like any dependable vehicle, even the American political system needs maintenance at times. However, it's obvious the system needs more than just an oil change. What we need is participation, articulation, mobilization, and civil insubordination. My name is Stephen Haynes, I'm the founder of a movement on Facebook called "Boycott the Republican Party in 2014." We believe that Democracy only functions well when the will of the people is heard and obeyed. We believe the flames of division shouldn't be fanned by hateful political stances. We believe this country is a home for the many and not the few. Together, we will stand against those who would do her harm. This boycott will gain momentum until change ensues. If we all do our part, I promise we will steer past these turbulent seas toward the bright lighthouse that is our principles and resolve and the beacon of light will deliver us safely home.
