The Fancy Farm picnic, in its 133rd year, is the highest profile political event in Kentucky with political junkies coming from across the state to listen to politicians speak and generally to treat them with as much disrespect, within bounds, as they can muster. Alison Lundergan-Grimes the democratic standard bearer criticized McConnell for his inability to work with others in Washington while Republican primary opponent Matt Bevin lambasted him for what he said was an inability to stand up to Obama.“If Mitch McConnell's doctor told him he had a kidney stone, he'd refuse to pass it,” said Grimes, drawing a big laugh from the crowd.
