Our guest is newly elected First Vice Chair of the Florida Democratic Party, Alan Clendenin! Jan 26, 2013, 2 days before the airing of this show, in the most closely fought party election in decades, Florida Democratic leaders elected former Tallahassee lobbyist Allison Tant as their new state chairwoman. Tant (our 1/7/2013 guest) defeated Hillsborough County Democratic state committeeman Alan Clendenin (our 12/19/13 guest and guest for this show) in a 587-507 vote. This concluded a two-month campaign that featured heavy lobbying on Tants behalf by Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and U.S. Senator Bill Nelson. Tant, 51, takes over a party of 4.8 million still basking in President Barack Obamas Florida victory in November — the first time since 1936 that a Democratic presidential candidate won Florida twice in a row. After Tants victory, Clendenin went on to win the First Vice Chair position with a vote of acclaimation! This episode we will hear from Alan on how Democrats are eager to take on Republican Gov.
